Do Flying Saucers Crash?

Skeptics of alleged UFO crashes wonder why, if visiting ETs are vastly superior to us, they seem to crash their vehicles so alarmingly often. It's a fair question, and one that defenders of crash-retrieval cases have yet to adequately address. This is partly due to the prevalent tendency to assume that "flying saucers," given their existence, are necessarily extraterrestrial craft thousands of years in advance of earthly aircraft.

It's generally assumed UFO crashes are grievous accidents. I'm not so sure. Deliberately offering a crashed saucer (and its technological bounty) to an emerging civilization might be a rather artful form of misdirection. "UFO lawyer" Peter Gersten likens the so-called Roswell Incident to a viral infection introduced by an entity he terms "Silog" ("silicon organism"), whose role is to supplant carbon-based life with its cybernetic equivalent. He cites the rise of brain-machine interfaces as possible evidence that we're slowly but certainly merging with Silog--perhaps recklessly.

A less malign reason to stage saucer crashes might be to inject terrestrial science with vital new ideas without the risk of (potentially disastrous) open contact. Purposefully crashed UFOs could also serve as a sort of invitation to officialdom, allowing the decision for open contact (or simply official acknowledgement) to be made by terrestrial leaders, an idea explored by Whitley Strieber in his fiction book "Majestic."

But there's a more esoteric consideration to explore. If UFOs represent a paranormal intelligence of the sort proposed by Jacques Vallee and John Keel, then operating within the confines of our universe may be surprisingly difficult, even clumsy; the aliens of close-encounter lore may be rather like astronauts forced to wear cumbersome spacesuits. Our familiar world of atoms and molecules may be decidedly foreign to our visitors, who may hail from higher-dimensional space. In their native environment, ufonauts may consist of pure thought; visiting Earth could entail "downshifting" to a gross level in which accidents can and do happen--up to and including Roswell Incidents.

Additionally, throughout the history of the UFO phenomenon, one finds "aliens" behaving in bizarre fashion. Some "abductees" report alien beings wearing human clothes in an apparent attempt to fit in. Enduring Men In Black sightings, as recounted in Keel's "The Mothman Prophecies," indicate that unearthly intelligences have a limited understanding of human culture, revealed through anachronistic dress or evident incomprehension when faced with trivial activities.

One is forced to conclude that either the controlling intelligence wants to draw attention to itself or else it really is impaired in some way; either scenario could help provide a plausible explanation for saucer crashes, which seem all-too-frequent when viewed as nuts-and-bolts navigation errors.

One thing I haven't heard talked about regarding these crashed saucers --> Why are there not rescue missions?! I mean, taking the cue from our own human way of thinking, when there's a downed plane, don't we try our best to find it and rescue any possible survivors? Even more so with military recon missons over nations with whom we would not like to share our secrets. Think about it: If the US had some hi tech craft that went down over Russia or China, aren't they going to go to extraordinary lengths to get to the scene before the local government carts it away for examination? Why would Exos care so little about their pilots or their hardware that they would leave live pilots to be captured, and the remains and the secrets to be picked over by the locals? You can’t tell me there’s no tracking or communication going on that would tell other Exos that someone is MIA… C’mon now. And if they indeed do care what would stop them from coming and taking back anything they don’t want us to have? I would think it would be as easy as taking candy from a baby. And it really wouldn’t have to involve blasters and ruined cities if we don’t comply.
For the above mentioned reasons, it may just be that Roswell happened like this: there was a crash, there were dead and surviving occupants. The military had the hardware and pilots but couldn't, or weren’t allowed, to retain them. And that is where the cover up came in. The military had to cover up the fact that they were powerless to stop the Exos from taking their stuff and people back. So in comes the weather balloon story, and the rest is history. Maybe the military really is telling the truth when they say they don’t have anything.

I suspect much stagecraft rather than spacecraft involved in ufology. Anyone here ever see "The Architects of Fear" a classic episode of "The Outer Limits."

Interesting perspective. A less interesting possibility: the saucers are time machines that sometimes fail with respect to date instead of altitude. For example, maybe the Roswell ufonauts were expecting to make a soft landing on an ocean but got the wrong time coordinate.

"Do Flying Saucers Crash?"

It is my understanding that until now, there is no proof that a 'flying saucer' has ever crashed.

It is one thing to consider the possibility of 'flying saucers' since there are so many anecdotal stories around about such phenomena.

But it is another thing all together to speculate about crashed ones based on anecdotal evidence since if one or more had in deed crashed, there would be real physical evidence available that would constitute real scientific proof.

Until such proof is provided in the public domain, it surely is vanity to seriously postulate further.

Isn't the real question the asking of the question? Why do we care? Why do we need to know? The image of an alien crash in Roswell is now imprinted on our brains. It is already real. It is no longer necessary that it actually happened. The information has been conveyed, while keeping it mysterious and unanswerable at the same time. It is a question of faith, my friends.

Dear Mac,
Velley was a great researcher with a very limited imagination.
So these aliens act strange do they...could it be on purpose. If they had a real handle on human psychology and the level of species evolution we are hovering at they could figure us out pretty quick...they are suppose to be smarter right? Then making sure the smartest among us would not look too carefully at some of these antics would already had been considered by them. They know something would get through the filter so...They make a stageshow for those for in the public beyond the taken people... who hate the absurd... scientist and the practical and the powerful ...and it works.
Then the questions is; why do they show themselves sometimes? Well unlike the scientist the gov. is paranoid they could believe they are really here... so a message to from them from time to time of, who is in charge of the airspace seem probable, also they may be arrogant...it seem to come with the territory...at least with our species including many scientist. We creating the mystical on stage in shows all the time ET may do it for real, after all just because we don't know quite what the mystical is doesn't mean they don't. They could use it or copy it anytime the want. You know like in pretending they are gods to the natives.
Also advances may not mean being God. They may not fly their best equipment down here... they may not carry terrible weapons only defensive ones. They certainly might know something about getting along, if they have come this far, and if there are more then one species.

There is another reason why there may crashes and why some recovered pieces seem to come from earth . ET have bases on earth.. seems smarter then travel zillions of miles to hang over Portage Ohio. Also bases may be why they seem to come out to play with our missile systems and shoot down are missiles. Just to let us know what they can do, Think about it...allot of UFOs ...atomic build-up... allot of UFOs... global warming...bases.
ET may be really smarter then even, Vallee, Keael. Hawkins and even sneakier then O.J. lawyers, I would think seriously of the true implication of that possibilities before you think any of our researchers know any more than you or I about who they are.

Good artlcle! And thoughtful points to consider.

I mentioned you in my interview on the Kevin Smith Show last night as we discussed various possibilities behind anomalous entities and seeming life-forms.
